About this place
Can't decide between meat and fish? Kokora Ya's mixed set meal offers both, alongside small vegetable dishes, tempura, Koshihikari rice from Kyotango, miso soup and dessert. One diner who tried the mixed set meal recalled enjoying chicken thigh and fish, as well as the side dishes and tempura. Another lunch featured sweet-and-savoury fried rockfish, steamed chicken and vegetable tempura—dishes that went well with rice—and ended with warabi mochi. Diners have also mentioned being able to ask for more rice and miso soup, making this a satisfying choice for lunch.
The guiding idea here is “home cooking”. Guests sit on tatami in a traditional Kyoto townhouse and settle in over obanzai, the small, homestyle dishes associated with Kyoto. Lunch is served as set meals; in the evening, diners can choose small plates such as sashimi made with fresh yuba, agedashi Kyoto tofu and fish namerō to enjoy with a drink. For dessert, options include hojicha pudding, kuromitsu kinako and the ice cream of the day, as well as a sweet-potato dessert served with vanilla ice cream.
